Theory
Gentle Reader,
This is a budding work in progress. It draws on anthropology, evolution, archaeology, comparative religion, linguistics, sexology, gender theory, neuroscience, performance studies, and media criticism. It isn't fundamentally academic writing. It's a multilevel performance that invites many dialogues. The scholarly side of the conversation now lives at Korazon Research.
The "Calling"
Teatro Korazon presented itself as an urgent mission in mid-2016…
Shamanism in human evolution
Evolution, like YouTube and democracy, is an emergent system…
The sexualized cosmology and pre-patriarchal archaeology
To be continued.
Towards a post-patriarchal tantra
To be continued.
Dreams of Atlantis
Plato first used the name in his dialogues…
About
A Theatre of Love to loosen the grip of Fear.
Teatro Korazon is a nonprofit "Theatre of Love" founded in Los Angeles, with headquarters in Kansas City. It challenges outdated models of gender, sexuality, and relationships to explore, envision, create, and model new possibilities. Drawing on anthropology, pre-patriarchal archaeology, contemporary theory, and neuroscience, it creates performances that range from ritual to comedic to erotic. Their aim is to heal the effects of domination, scarcity, and fear-based cultural models, and to invite a more loving, balanced, and harmonious post-patriarchal world.
Process
Visionary directors such as Jerzy Grotowski and Augusto Boal formed ensembles of talented performers who trained intensively together. Those ensembles proved fertile ground for new ways of being and communicating, and for culture-making performance. Teatro Korazon applies this model to love and sexuality, topics that are often marginalized and censored, to heal past trauma and inspire desire for a more loving world.
In memoriam
Teatro Korazon was founded six months after the death of Elizabeth Nell Reilly, the founder's fiancée, on February 16, 2016. She took the artist name Kora Hayes, an homage to Kore (Persephone) and Hades, and was willing to "go to the underworld to keep bringing back the Spring for others." Her spirit lives on through the company's work. See KoraHayes.com. Gifts to the Kora Fund support students in The Op-Ed Project's workshops.
